A quiet first look
View the whole setting from an uncrowded edge. Notice surface, people flow, other dogs, shade and an easy route away without turning the pause into a fitness or welfare assessment.
Working room
Avoid intersecting leads and pressured greetings. A handler can ask for more space at any time, and distance should never be used as a test of behaviour or tolerance.
A complete handoff
Before moving away, confirm in person that the next responsible adult has the lead, understands the immediate plan and can locate the dog’s belongings.
